Keratoconus is a progressive thinning and bulging of the cornea that distorts vision. Corneal cross-linking (CXL) strengthens the corneal tissue and can slow or stop the progression of the disease.
Depending on the stage, treatment options also include special contact lenses, intracorneal ring segments, or corneal transplantation in advanced cases.

What to expect
- Procedure duration
- Cross-linking: about 1 hour per eye
- Recovery time
- Several days of light sensitivity; vision stabilises over weeks
- Who is a good candidate
- Progressive keratoconus or corneal ectasia when strengthening the cornea can preserve vision.
